604c to sell, question about board rules

    Greetings all..
I have a single original, not reproduction, Altec 604C that I am interested in selling to a real Altec enthusiast. I have had this driver for about 15~17 years, planning on using it for a never built mono system with which I would listen to my extensive collection of 78s and mono 45s and 33s....The system was to also serve as a center channel for my large stereo system, ...TAD 1602s, on the bottom, Altec Great Plains 15 inchers upper bass lower mids, and German tractrix horns with modified 2 way BMS 2 inch drive units from 500 Hz up. It would have made a nice L-C-R setup...I would expect that in today's world, a single driver such as this, would more than likely find a home as a center channel, as compared to a stand-alone mono system. Either way, the choir upon which to preach is right here..You all know what I mean..

The driver appears to be in excellent condition, though I have never fired it up. Before sale, I will hook it up to a WT-2 driver characteristic tester and check the voice coils, just to make sure...I will also take photos and have them available in my Photo-bucket account. I bought it from a fellow that purchased it in what was told to him as the original home made enclosure, a really sad rough plywood box, but with enough 50s`60s era grill cloth that the driver face was VERY well protected. I tried to restore the old home made enclosure, but the plywood was full of voids and it would rattle just from banging on it, so it became a frame for some shop shelving. There was an original crossover, potted in a green metal small box, but it was toast...someone had pulled or scraped it from the back of the enclosure and yanked on the wires, pulling out some of the potting, parts, and wires...I did not plan on re-using that crossover, even if restored, but I don't recall tossing it out, so it might be found at a later date...If so, it will be available to whoever buys the 604C...but at this instant, it is missing.

A few years ago I got some good advice from this forum on possible crossovers to use with this classic green duplex. I never got around to building the system, and now, sadly I need to downsize....

So, here is my question....What are the rules about offering a driver for sale on this forum?????

I don't want to go the 'bay route, they have such huge fees these days. Most of the real enthusiasts are here anyway....

What would the appropriate value be for such a driver these days??? ..of course, tested and with photos..

If anyone can direct me to the appropriate section on the forum use rules, I would appreciate it. I would sure like to sell this great driver right here to someone that will really appreciate it...Thanks, Jennifer <[email protected]>

Is that Jennifer of the Oregon Triode Society? If so, hello!

And yes, post in the classifieds at the top, as OG says. Documentation is always welcome, so your photos and sweeps will be nice.

I did not see the sticky until after I had posted....Duh!!!! Last time I was here, there were no stickies at the top [ a couple of years ago ] and quite frankly, I just rushed into making my post....

I'll get some photos in the next few days,,,,and post up under that FOR SALE sticky..

And yes Panomaniac, I am the OTSer....Don't know you by your handle here, but HI!!!

Are you also with the OTS???? If so, we gotta get some steam back into that phono stage project..

    So..What is my 604C worth?

    Jennifer

No problem. Just trying to point in the right direction

Value, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder..but my guess is 400-600 US. Matched pairs are typically 1200-ish.

There are other single 604's out there looking to settle down.

Helps if you can find the original xover.

Agree with O.G. That's the price range I typically see. Don't know if a single is worth more or less than 1/2 a pair. Depends on what you need, I suppose.

Yes, I was at a few OTS meetings this year, but alas am no longer in Portland. No good audio club where I am now. =(
